Term 3 Topic: Minibeasts

This term we are learning about minibeasts. Mrs Bond and Mrs Futcher introduced the minibeast section with a Youtube video called: Minibeast adventures with Jess - Crazy Critters and bugs for Children.

We followed this up with informative songs from Youtube about insects:

We then did a session on butterflies and dragonflies. We asked the children: How many wings do they have? How many legs?  To answer this question we showed them fact files on both butterflies and dragonflies, and followed this up with Youtube videos (see link below), action songs, activities and laminated pictures of butterflies and dragonflies.

Dragonflies:

The children then chose to create either a dragonfly or butterfly for our minibeasts display wall. Using computer packaging they painted the bodies, attached pipe cleaner antennae, googly eyes, and wings.

Didn't they do a great job?

The next minibeast the children learned about was spiders. The children learned how to use white crayon and dye to create a spider web. Then using their hand as a template they created their spiders, cut them out, coloured them in and attached googly eyes. Here is the spider wall display:

The children have been busy writing stories, learning poems and discovering facts about different minibeasts from bee's, ants, butterflies, dragonflies, spiders, lady bugs, grasshoppers and crickets. This is all in preparation for our minibeasts wearable arts show on the11th and 12 of September 2019. Make sure you check back soon, for our next blog installment of Minibeasts 2!!

Thank you for your time and attention. šŸ˜ƒ
