Wonderful Writing Week 8

Have a look at some of the awesome pieces of writing below produced by Room 16. We have been looking at the game 'granny/ Kuia' went to market and creating our own scenarios where the children and a friend have been to the shop.

Madden has been working so hard to improve his writing and his confidence is soaring too. Well done Madden!

Te Aupouri is working very hard to practice her handwriting and her writing as well as remembering the date! Phew, that's a lot of things - Good job Te Aupouri!

Luke has been experimenting with writing his own sentences which are a little different to our big class sentence. In this story he and his friend go to the Animal Land! What an amazing adventure.

Well done everyone!

Term Topic: Money

Kia Ora everyone, and welcome back to PCS after a lovely 2 week break. This term we will be looking at the topic of 'money' and developing the children's financial literacy.
If you'd like to be more involved with your child in this then have a look at the ideas below!

- Show your child different coins and currency that you might have with you. What do the different colours mean?
- Let your child hand money to a cashier and talk about the change you get back.
-Look at food receipts with your child and figure out how much everything cost.
-Practice using 'niceties' when shopping such as saying, please, thank you and excuse me to retail staff.

On Monday we set up Room 16 as a supermarket and labelled all of our items depending on how much value the children felt they had. We had some interesting ideas! My favourite was certainly that our classroom television cost only 6 dollars.
We dressed up as shop keepers and customers then shopped around for items in the classroom. We had to make sure we had to right amount of money, and that we were responsible and looked after it carefully!

LCS Discovery - Maui and the Ika

Many of you will have seen the brilliant matau that the children came home with this weekend. You might remember that a couple of weeks ago we were investigating Maui and the ika- the story of how Maui stuck aboard his brother's waka and caught the giant ika using a matau created from jawbone. It has taken us a while because we wanted to try our best, but our matau are finally complete and you can see the picture of us all holding them below. We are very proud of ourselves!

Well done Room 16!

Reward time: Respect (Manakitanga)

At PCS we look at the 4 key PB4L features. As we settle back into school we have been focusing on the feature of being respectful. The children identified this as actions such as taking turns, listening to each other, not shouting out, and being careful around their friends.

The reward we decided upon was to have a class picnic! We knew we had to be super careful of germs, especially right now, so we had separate cups and plates. We remembered to wash our hands and our teachers and teaching aides helped give us food using gloves.

We were also lucky enough to share our jump jam time with RM15 and their teacher Mrs Andrews. Jump jam is important in getting our bodies moving. Even if we find it tricky we always try our best! Have a look at our pictures of us dancing and enjoying our well earned picnic!
Enjoy the long weekend everyone.

Kia Ora everyone,
we have had a great first week back and have had lots of time to discover our new classroom and all of the exciting bits inside of it! This week we have been exploring our maths' drawers which have lots of activities in, designed to further both our maths' knowledge and some of our key competencies such as managing self, and communicating with others.
Have a look below at our super pictures!

Have a great weekend, and I will see you all on Monday.
