Term Topic: Money

Kia Ora everyone, and welcome back to PCS after a lovely 2 week break. This term we will be looking at the topic of 'money' and developing the children's financial literacy.
If you'd like to be more involved with your child in this then have a look at the ideas below!

- Show your child different coins and currency that you might have with you. What do the different colours mean?
- Let your child hand money to a cashier and talk about the change you get back.
-Look at food receipts with your child and figure out how much everything cost.
-Practice using 'niceties' when shopping such as saying, please, thank you and excuse me to retail staff.

On Monday we set up Room 16 as a supermarket and labelled all of our items depending on how much value the children felt they had. We had some interesting ideas! My favourite was certainly that our classroom television cost only 6 dollars.
We dressed up as shop keepers and customers then shopped around for items in the classroom. We had to make sure we had to right amount of money, and that we were responsible and looked after it carefully!

LCS Discovery - Maui and the Ika

Many of you will have seen the brilliant matau that the children came home with this weekend. You might remember that a couple of weeks ago we were investigating Maui and the ika- the story of how Maui stuck aboard his brother's waka and caught the giant ika using a matau created from jawbone. It has taken us a while because we wanted to try our best, but our matau are finally complete and you can see the picture of us all holding them below. We are very proud of ourselves!

Well done Room 16!

Reward time: Respect (Manakitanga)

At PCS we look at the 4 key PB4L features. As we settle back into school we have been focusing on the feature of being respectful. The children identified this as actions such as taking turns, listening to each other, not shouting out, and being careful around their friends.

The reward we decided upon was to have a class picnic! We knew we had to be super careful of germs, especially right now, so we had separate cups and plates. We remembered to wash our hands and our teachers and teaching aides helped give us food using gloves.

We were also lucky enough to share our jump jam time with RM15 and their teacher Mrs Andrews. Jump jam is important in getting our bodies moving. Even if we find it tricky we always try our best! Have a look at our pictures of us dancing and enjoying our well earned picnic!
Enjoy the long weekend everyone.

Week 4 Day 2 work update

Hello everyone, have a look at the amazing fantastic incredibly hard working superstars we have in this class!

First up is Mary. Mary's dad says Mary has been busy making a fish and jellyfish using cardboard rolls, a paper towel, and string. How inventive!

Next up we have the lovely Aquarius. I am blown away with how hard you have been working at home with mum. You look really happy and it's awesome that you're trying so hard with all your super learning!

Finally we have the ever energetic Rara, who has actually been doing some super mini lessons on our letters! Take a look below.

Week 2 Day 5: Make your own uniform day

How funny to see everyone in their 'own uniforms' this morning on the chat. We saw Rara and Miss Nickie dressed as Spiderman and Luke dressed as an awesome superhero. We also saw some funky and colorful outfits from Mary, Jayni and Jayna, and Lennox. I loved that Robert's top had a cool lizard on it today too and that Annabelle did an awesome job wearing her PCS school uniform!

Have a look below at Miss Rayner's 'make your own uniform' that she was wearing this morning and if you can, send in a picture of the uniforms you made this morning and we can put them on the blog. My uniform had a dressing gown, a pajama top, a pajama bottom, and a pair of fluffy slippers. It's keeping me very warm whilst we work from home! What will yours look like?

Have a great Friday everyone. :)

Week 2 Day 4 update

I am as proud as ever of all the lovely children in Room 16 for trying their best everyday, even when it can be tricky!

For some children being online has been a bit task to see other people in such a different setting. You guys are superheros! Wow, look at you go, being brave enough to speak on camera, and don't worry, Miss Rayner gets scared too sometimes. :)

Some children have loved reading at home with adults but hated doing math and that's totally okay, I love that you're giving it a go and trying your best.

I also heard that Isaac yesterday got so caught up with the challenge of designing a lunchbox that he didn't get round to doing anything else- totally okay!  Check out Isaac's amazing lunchbox below.

Other children might have not wanted to work but they've managed to do something, even the smallest thing everyday and it is just amazing that as family, as loved ones, as adults and children together you are doing this and being so strong!

Keep going everyone! I promise every time I see an email from you it makes me smile and I can't wait to keep sharing the rest of your pictures and videos this week and next.

Love Miss Rayner

Online Distance Learning Day 1

That's the first day of Online Distance Learning over! The junior team could not be more thrilled with some of the positive responses we have seen, and how hard parents and children are trying even at this tricky time.

I wanted to share with you the work that has been sent to me today which just looks super.
I've also heard that Waris has been making cards for her best friend and looking at the letter S, and Luke, Rara, Annabelle and Madden have all made a start on the Online Distance Learning Journey.
Below are some pictures from Mary, Heidi and Isaac showing their super learning.

I can't wait until our class is back together again properly, but in the mean time I am so proud of all of you for being so brave and wonderful.

Stay safe everyone, and keep smiling!
