Many of you will have seen the brilliant matau that the children came home with this weekend. You might remember that a couple of weeks ago we were investigating Maui and the ika- the story of how Maui stuck aboard his brother's waka and caught the giant ika using a matau created from jawbone. It has taken us a while because we wanted to try our best, but our matau are finally complete and you can see the picture of us all holding them below. We are very proud of ourselves!
Well done Room 16!

LCS: James Cook
Kia Ora!
We have been on a journey of discovery to learn all about captain James Cook today. We learned that he was one of the people who is to said to have discovered New Zealand and Australia.
We watched a short video on Captain Cook and learned that his ship was called the Endevour. It took a very long time for him to get from England to Australia!
Then we discussed together what Captain Cook did when he met the Aboriginal/ Maori people in Australia/ New Zealand. We learned that he attacked and killed many of them and we wondered what could he have done instead.
We came up with these things:
How to make friends
-not the way James Cook did!
- Share our food (we talked about how we might do this at home but not at school)
-Be nice to them.
-We could hug them and use our kind hands.
-Use kind words.
-Be thoughtful and respectful.
-Give them flowers.
- Be kind with our words and our feet.
Such an awesome amount of ideas, well done Room 16!

TV show talk: fractions
Room 16 has been fab with fractions this week! Have a look as they worked in groups to film their own mini tv shows describing a 1/2 and a 1/4. They have worked really hard and have been putting those collaborating skills into practice.
Good job room 16!

Playdough characters
This afternoon in room 16 we used playdough to create characters from the storybooks we have in our class library. We also took it in turns to paint our hooks that we made last week for Maui and te ika, but we can't show you them just yet!
For now have a look at the sweet pictures of the kids using playdough and managing themselves responsibly and respectfully.
Have a great day!

Stretchy jellyfish
For our writing today we watched the really awesome live feed from Monteray Bay Aquarium of Jellyfish.
Then we wrote our sentences together based on what we had seen and discussed. We are learning to become independent writers.

Learn Create Share: Week 7 + 8
Hello everyone!
Last week we started doing our first Learn Create Share project. This means we Learn about a topic, then we create something about this topic, then we share it via our blog (or we send them home). Check out the power point below.
Over this two weeks we have been learning about Kupe and Te Wheke! We watched and listened to the story about how Kupe battled Te Wheke after Te Wheke was stealing fish from the villagers. We made our own copies of Kupe and Te Wheke to put on our display. We have also been working on making our own Te Wheke! Today we have painted them and we need to add their legs so we will soon see pictures of them shared on the blog. They look pretty awesome so far!
Thanks everyone,
Miss Rayner
